In 1803 Gideon Putnam was clearing land around Congress Park when he discovered something extraordinary. 🌿
A spring.
And nothing in Saratoga Springs was ever the same again. 💥
Over two centuries later — that same spring still flows. Still draws visitors. Still stands beneath its magnificent Grecian pavilion — the Columbian Fountain — built in 1840 and lovingly restored by the City and Historic Society in 1981. Those elegant yellow columns rising proudly into the Saratoga sky. That beautiful curved roof. A structure that has watched over this extraordinary city for nearly 200 years. 🏛️✨
The Columbian Spring is not just a landmark.
It is the heartbeat of Congress Park. 💛
And Congress Park is the heartbeat of Saratoga Springs — that magnificent summer city where history and horse racing and pure Upstate New York magic come together every single year in a way that takes your breath away. 🏇🌿💥
Dennis Spittler captured this extraordinary piece of living history on a perfect spring day — that bold black and gold sign with its brilliant blue lettering in the foreground, those magnificent yellow columns of the Columbian Fountain rising majestically behind it, the fresh green grass of Congress Park stretching out in every direction — and the result is a photograph that feels like stepping back in time. 📸💥
220 years of history.
One perfect photograph.
